Toronto – October 23, 2008   “Partners for the Planet” a new environmental awareness program has been announced by Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) a leader in Canadian horseracing in association with U-Pak Disposals Ltd. (U-Pak) a leader in recycling services.

Trucks displaying the Woodbine Entertainment Group and U-Pak partnership logo are on the streets of North Etobicoke to raise awareness for the 3Rs program (Reduce, Re-use and Recycle).  Also, as part of this partnership, brand new recycling containers have been added to the Woodbine facility.

Strong business partners since 2003, WEG and U-Pak have worked closely together to fine-tune WEG’s recycling efforts and explore new ways to increase its diversion rates.

An estimated 1200 tonnes per year of material is being diverted from WEG facilities to recycle streams that would have otherwise been sent to landfill as waste. WEG’s diversion rates have been climbing steadily since 2003 and are on track to reach approximately 92% in 2008 with the inclusion of its manure and wood shavings diversion programs.

The Recycle Council of Ontario, at the 2008 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards honoured WEG with the Silver Award in the Facilities category in recognition of excellence and commitment to a sustainable environment on October 21st.
